Local experiences

Local experiences

Meaningful outings and activities closer to home, shaped around what a person actually enjoys - markets, coastline, galleries, live events, food and community connection.

Status: Pilot planning
A person using a mobility scooter browsing produce stalls at a local market on a bright morning.

Who it may suit

This is a starting point for a conversation. Suitability is always assessed individually with the person, and we will say honestly if something is not a good fit.

  • People building confidence with time away from home
  • People who want regular, interest-led activity rather than a large trip
  • People testing what works before planning an overnight or longer journey

Location concept: South East Queensland, with other areas considered as capability grows

Proposed highlights

Concept only - nothing here is confirmed.

  • A short list of options chosen with the person, not from a fixed catalogue
  • A practical access plan for each venue and the journey between
  • A simple written outline so everyone knows what is planned

Access and communication considerations

Planning considers physical, sensory, cognitive, communication, psychosocial and multiple access requirements together. We plan around the person, not a diagnosis.

  • Physical access: parking, path surfaces, distances, seating and accessible bathrooms
  • Sensory: noise, crowding, lighting and access to a quieter space
  • Cognitive: predictable structure, clear sequencing and preparation materials
  • Communication: preferred method, processing time and support for choice-making
  • Psychosocial: pacing, familiarity, exit options and agreed check-ins
  • Multiple access requirements considered together rather than in isolation

What may be included, excluded and still to be confirmed

May include

  • Planning conversations and a written experience outline

Still to be confirmed

  • Availability of a suitable support arrangement where support is required
